3-D Printed Automated Suturing Device

With a design reminiscent of Allen Wilson’s rotating hook sewing machine of 1852, Sutrue (Chelmsford, Essex, UK) is in the process of developing a hand-held suturing device that automatically makes lockstitch sutures, without the risk of needle pricks to the surgeon’s fingers. 3-D printing has been instrumental in making quick-turn around prototypes as this invention nears clinical trials. Google the company name for videos which show how both the larger device and an endoscopic version for surgical robots work. MORE
