Haptoglobin is a glycoprotein involved in the body’s antibacterial and anti-inflammatory responses, but also implicated in an autoimmune disorder of the optic nerve, Neuromyelitis optica. To determine if haptoglobin is present in this disease, researchers at Namik Kemal University (Tekirdag, Turkey) have created an indium tin oxide biosensor that relies on anti-Hp antibodies to detect haptoglobin blood markers.
