Reading with a Bionic Eye

Retinitis pigmentosa had taken the sight in both eyes of a 49 year old woman from Wales, until surgeons at the Oxford Eye Hospital (Oxford, UK) implanted a tiny circuit chip in the back of her retina, and a small computer behind her ear, with a magnetic coil for power fitted on the skin. With the pieces in place, the woman could see fuzzy black and white images, but clearly enough to tell time on the hands of a watch.
