First Whole-Body PET Scanner

PET imaging differs from MRI and CT in that PET shows tissue function in addition to anatomy. Based on that, the University of California at Davis has received a $15.5m grant from the National Institutes of Health to build the first whole-body PET scanner. Investigators in this project believe that whole body PET scanning can be done with one-fortieth the amount of radiation exposure and in 30 seconds rather than 20 minutes. MORE WITH VIDEO
