“Tauopathy” as a Consequence of Repeated Concussions

Football players who have sustained repeated concussions, soldier suffering from traumatic brain injury and Alzheimer’s patients seem to have a molecular malady in common—i.e. a misshapen tau protein in their brain neurons that results in tangles. Research at Harvard has shown, in mice, that a specific antibody exists for this “tauopathy,” which neuroscientists hope may lead to a definitive antibody test for these conditions. MORE
