A Protein Called “TOPLESS”

Why would a biomedical research institute, focusing on cancer, conduct research on plant proteins? The answer explains why the mustard plant, Arabidopsis, was a model organism for the Human Genome Project. Researchers at the Van Ardel Institute (Grand Rapids, MI) have found that a plant protein called “TOPLESS” is a co-repressor of epigenetic expression, acting as a control mechanism for genetic stability. They believe certain signaling processes work similarly in humans. MORE
