Genome Sequencing in the Palm of Your Hand

It wasn’t that long ago when a DNA sequencer, like the ABI machines the Human Genome Project relied upon, was the size of a refrigerator. Now, Oxford Nanopore’s “MinION” has demonstrated the capacity to sequence the E. coli genome in a device the size of a smartphone. The company admits that larger sequencers are more accurate, but the MinION might be able to rival the best machines with stronger bioinformatics now being developed. MORE
