Anticancer drugs and radiation resemble old-fashioned naval gunfire—one shot short and one shot long to get the range. In oncology, flow cytometry determines this calibration, but the process involves major pieces of equipment that require daily recalibration. Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology (Mainz, Germany) have developed a small cytometer called “PoCyton” which is shoe-box size, inexpensive to operate and is automated for quick results.
