Implantable Microscope for Brain Exploration

Neuroscientists at the University of Colorado’s medical campus in Denver have built a prototype of a tiny implantable microscope that they used to image neuronal activity in mice. The device, a half-inch in diameter, has liquid lens focusing and a bundle of ten to thirty thousand optical fibers that allow a hundred neurons in, say, the amygdala, to be seen at one time. MORE
