Predicting Tumor Aggressiveness

Here’s a math score that really could kill you. In this case MATH (meaning mutant-allele tumor heterogeneity) is a bioinformatics tool that oncologists at Ohio State University’s comprehensive cancer center have developed to determine how many subpopulations of malignant cells are in a solid tumor (in this case, squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck). The greater the heterogeneity (determined by whole exome sequencing), the more likely it is that some subpopulations will be resistant to all therapies. MORE
