Activating Liver Regeneration
May 5, 2015 | Terry Sharrer
This piece mainly makes a case for FGF21 (fibroblast growth factor 21) accelerating liver regeneration after surgery, but this protein in conjunction with another, PPARa, could be useful in growing livers artificially from stem cells (though this isn’t mentioned in the story). In animal studies, FGF21 also reduced insulin resistance and accelerated fat metabolism, suggesting a common pathway in human metabolic syndrome. MORE
