Wearable Monitor that Adds Core Temperature Sensor
Seemingly, a new wearable monitor for tracking one measure or another appears every week. The “EQ02 Life Monitor” from Equivital (Cambridge, UK), however, has more apps/package than any other thus far. Embedded in a chest strap is a ECG, heart rate and respiration rate monitor, three axis accelerometer, GPS, oxygen saturation sensor, and two types of temperature trackers—one in a skin patch and another in an ingestible capsule for monitoring body core temperature. Its battery can run for 48 hours before recharging and its wireless data logging can record for seven weeks. While the company has explorers, Special Forces, and performance athletes in mind for its customers, the device would be quite useful in monitoring discharged cardiac patients, women with difficult pregnancies, asthmatic children, and elders with memory and/or movement disorders.
