Body-Attachable Nanowire Sensors

Capacitance means an ability to store an electrical charge, and engineers at North Carolina State University have developed a tiny capacitator that can be worn on the skin to measure joint movement. The device is made of two silver nanowires with an insulating material between them. Applied to skin, the sensor measures the stretch of the conductors and thus provides data about physical rehabilitation, the effectiveness of artificial joints, athletic performance, gait analysis, and other movement-associated aspects of health.
