Overview of US Health Information Technology

In 2006, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation sponsored a study of health information technologies in the US and now, seven years later, it has supported a comparative study that shows both progress and shortcomings. This year’s 84 page report focuses on progress in adopting electronic health records, mitigating disparities in EHR adoption, international comparisons, progress and challenges with Health Information Exchanges, and improving patient education. Among several useful features are case studies, recommendations for meaningful use, future best practices, and two pages of acronyms that have arisen with health informatics. MORE
