Optogenetic Switches Light Up Neural Networks

Harvard researchers have successfully transferred an electro-fluorescent protein, rhodopsin, to mammalian heart cells in such a way that the conductivity of nerve impulses in heartbeat can be seen. They believe that such an optogentic switch can show how cardiac cells respond to drugs, and, of course, the same idea if applicable to other neural pathways and networks. MORE
