Filling the Extracellular Matrix for Younger Skin

Dermatologists at the University of Michigan have shown that injections of fibroblasts into the skin stimulate collagen production which in turn supports the extracellular matrix (ECM) that sustains keratinocytes. Wrinkles and skin thinning with age result from the ECM becoming fragmented. Researchers involved in this work don’t anticipate new strategies for cosmetic treatments, but do believe their observations could produce better skin-damage prevention strategies. MORE
