Anti-Aging Nanoparticles

The ghost of Juan Ponce de Leon might be tickled that there may yet be “a fountain of youth,” found not in Florida, but in his own native Spain. Researchers at several Spanish biomedical centers have demonstrated for the first time that nanoparticles can deliver drugs to degenerative cells and not to others. Their strategy involves coating drug-conveying nanoparticles in galactooligosaccharide which then target cells in senescent states that release beta-galactosidase. The developers believe this could be used in treating several aging disorders as well as for cosmetic applications. MORE
