Printed Prosthetics
November 6, 2012 | Terry Sharrer
In the past year, 3-D printing has brought several “firsts” in orthopedics, but this piece raises an interesting situation—printing prosthetics that are small enough for young children. The video and downloadable case study document the Wilmington Robotic Exoskeleton that was developed in collaboration between Stratasys Technologies (Eden Prairie, MN) and the Nemours Children’s Hospital’s (Wilmington, DE) pediatric engineering research lab. Now a little girl can play with her Legos, which are made of the same plastic as her prosthetic arm. MORE
