Regenerating Heart Beat
September 4, 2012 | Terry Sharrer
Heart beat involves a coordinated action potential and calcium wave impulse propagation in different cells. With that in mind, bioengineers at the University of Michigan, University of Wisconsin and Oxford University have created a multicellular heart patch from induced pluripotent stem cells (originally skin) that approaches the normal rhythm of a human heart. Today, about two and a half million Americans suffer from irregular heart beat. MORE
