USDA Telemedicine Grants
August 14, 2012 | Terry Sharrer
The USDA may not be the first government agency that comes to mind in supporting telemedicine/telehealth, but it did award $14m grants this year for rural projects in distance learning (19) and telemedicine (32). The top award was slightly less than $500k, and all went to benefit underserved areas where educational and health disparities were apparent. An example was $149,094 grant to the Appalachian College of Pharmacy in southwestern Virginia (Oakwood, VA) to support telemedicine medication adherence for chronic illnesses. A link in this piece has a complete list of the grant recipients and a short description of their projects. For future opportunities search the USDA’s Distance Learning and Telemedicine Program. MORE
