Minimally Invasive, Sutureless Aortic Valve Replacement

Using a replacement aortic valve that opens like an umbrella and anchors itself to the vessel’s walls, surgeons at the Montreal Heart Institute have successfully made heart valve replacement a minimally invasive procedure. Instead of opening the chest cavity, the thoracic incision was only five centimeters long. This falls a little short of making valve replacement an outpatient procedure, but full mobility recovery is three times faster. MORE
