Growing Lung Tissue in Vitro

One of the reasons cystic fibrosis remains incurable is that researchers have not, until now, been able to grow CF-afflicted lung tissue in the lab. Recently, however a team from Harvard and Massachusetts General Hospital have shown how it is possible to invoke CF gene expression in induced pluripotent stem cells and then grow up unlimited quantities of CF lung tissue for drug testing.
