Implantable Sensor for Telemonitoring Intracranial Pressure
June 5, 2012 | Terry Sharrer
Telemetry systems that allow heart failure patients to be monitored at home are becoming increasingly common, but this report describes an implantable sensor that measures intracranial pressure and transmits its data over a distance, as, perhaps, involving a patient with hydrocephalus living at home. The device consists of a small disk transducer, implanted under the scalp, with an inch long probe that transits a small hole in the skull. It can send an alert for emergency surgery, or record that fluid pressure is normal. The device was developed at the Medical University in Mainz, Germany. MORE
