Many hospital devices, from vital signs monitors to infusion pumps, are now WiFi enabled, and most function on the 2.4 GHz frequency. While that frequency can transmit over a considerable distance, the load of signals from hundreds or thousands of devices causes “noise.” For that reason, the 5 GHz frequency, which offers more channels, may be a better design alternative, though its transmission distance is shorter.
