Large Telemedicine Study in the UK
January 17, 2012 | Terry Sharrer
Last month, the UK Department of Health released results of a two year telemedicine study of 6,000 patients with congestive heart failure, COPD and diabetes in three locations. They found that telemedicine resulted in a 15% reduction in emergency room visits; 20% reduction in emergency admissions; 14% reduction in elective admissions; 14% reduction in bed days, and a 45% reduction in mortality. There’s no specific number for reduction of readmissions, but the decline in emergency admissions is dramatic enough to hint strongly about readmissions. MORE
