The so-called “Great Recession” has deflected innovation from an opportunity the FCC created in 2002-use of ultra wide band radio frequencies for all sort of communications. There are two classes within UWB, one that relies on low power, low data transmission, and short transmission distances, and another that allows high speed, highly energy efficient transmission, also for short distances.
