Besides the $1,000 genome sequence, wouldn’t it be nice to have a ten cent medical lab-on-a-chip that could diagnose dozens or even hundreds of diseases from a drop of blood? That dream may not be too distant because both blood biomarker discovery is accelerating, and researchers at MIT have found an inexpensive way to fabricate diagnostic chips on glass. The key to this device is an array of microdots that acts as optical antennae for the target markers. MORE
