It’s no small trick to quantify lipid-membrane concentrations in living cells, but University of Illinois chemist Wonhwa Cho has done that, a first in that field, using hybrid protein molecules that fluoresce only when they bind with specific lipids. Cho believes that variation in lipid concentrations represent a means for protein to protein signaling in cellular processes. MORE
