Inside an implantable device about the size of a thumbnail, researchers at the Technical University of Munich have placed an oxygen sensing microchip, a transmitter, and a battery that measures a tumor’s growth in real time. The patient carries a receiver that collects the data and forwards it to a physician-indicating when surgery may be necessary, or the effectiveness of chemotherapy. MORE
