For Toxicity Testing, a Human-Body-on-a-Chip

Over the next five years, the National Institutes of Health, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the Food and Drug Administration will have $140m in research funding to develop a “chip” that has human cells imbedded representing ten different physiological systems (e.g. heart, brain, liver, kidney, et al). Its purpose is to test drugs for toxicity and vaccines for safety. MORE
