The World Health Organization estimates that 30% of all drugs sold in developing nations are counterfeits. And, with increasing mail order pharmacy business in the developed world, fakes have a good chance of penetrating the market. To address this problem, Ashifi Gogo, Ph.D. post doc fellow at Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth has started a company that makes a mobile products authentication app which verifies whether or not a drug is genuine. In the US, the FDA is responsible for policing 24 million shipments of imported drugs as well as the active ingredients that go into drug manufacture. MORE
