Breath Test for Vitamin Deficiency
August 2, 2011 | Terry Sharrer
Researchers at the University of Florida at Gainesville, and a New Hampshire company, Metabolic Solutions, have developed a breath test for Vitamin B-12 deficiency. The assay depends on Vitamin B-12’s breakdown of sodium propionate into carbon dioxide, which is then measured as a deficiency indicator. Vitamin B-12 deficiency is implicated in several disorders, especially anemias. A report of this work appeared in The Journal of Breath Research. MORE
