Using publicly-available MedPAR data, business analysts at Thomson Reuters rated hospital systems (not individual hospitals) based on in-hospital mortality, patient safety, average length of stay, 30 day post discharge mortality, 30 day readmission, standards of care adherence, and patient satisfaction, to determine the ten best systems in the US out of 285 reviewed.  Interestingly, three of these outstanding organizations were in Massachusetts, and two each in Illinois and Ohio.  Only one system came from a southern state.
