Artas System

Hair restoration is a cosmetic procedure, but in a sense it borders on regenerative medicine, similar to a transplant regenerating a lost function. Typically, restoration involves significantly invasive surgery, but Restoration Robotics, Inc. (Mountain View, CA) has developed a robotic “ARTAS” system that uses an image guided robotic arm and tiny skin punch to extract individual hair follicles.  These are then transplanted into the scalp, allowing blood vessels to develop over time for permanence.  The company has received 510k FDA clearance for this device.
