Generating and Storing Oxygen at Home

About 1.5 million Medicare patients now are on oxygen at home for their chronic respiratory conditions. Typically, they receive and return tanks, but Royal Philips Electronics recently introduced its “HomeLox” portable oxygen generator and storage system. It works by converting room air to oxygen, and then chilling it to a liquid. The machine holds oxygen until it is transferred to a small, portable tank. This offers convenience and some savings from delivery charges, but this report doesn’t say how much the HomLox unit costs. Still, it’s another indicator of the hospital room of the future being in patients’ homes. MORE PLUS A VIDEO
