ATCC’s Move on iPSC’s
It’s a fair guess that Kyoto University Professor Shinya Yamanaka could win a Nobel Prize this year for his pioneering work in induced pluripotent stem cells. His technology is spreading around the world. In 2008, the year after he demonstrated iPSC’s from human fibroblasts, Kyoto University created iPS Academia Japan to commercially develop the market. And, in this story, the American Type Culture Collection (Manassas, VA) recently signed a licensing agreement with iPS Academia Japan to “create, modify, differentiate, manufacture, and distribute” induced pluripotent stem cells for research and commercial uses. ATCC is the world’s largest commercial biological resource company, and it aims to play a central role in translational medicine. MORE
