Wireless Implanted Heart Monitor
April 5, 2011 | Terry Sharrer
When congestive heart failure patients are admitted to a hospital they may have a catheter inserted into their heart to measure fluid pressure, but this is rarely done on follow ups. To get longer term data, CardioMEMS (Atlanta, GA) has developed a wireless implant that goes into the pulmonary artery. This device then senses the fluid pressure and sends its reading wirelessly to a receiver in a bed pillow, which then furthers the data to the patient’s physician over an internet connection. Continuous monitoring of fluid pressure offers a warning before other CHF symptoms present. MORE
