Implantable Device for Bariatric Medicine

“Abiliti” is the name of a implantable “gastric pacemaker” made by Intrapace, Inc. (Mountain View, CA) that is now undergoing late stage clinical trials in Europe. It’s designed to be laparoscopically implanted outside the stomach (though within the abdominal cavity), with one lead that senses ingestion and another that stimulates a full feeling. In earlier studies, obese patients lost as much as 38% of their body weight in one year. An accelerometer in the device also records the level of physical activity and sends its data wirelessly. MORE
