Cancer Detection in an Hour

Investigators at Massachusetts General Hospital’s Center for Systems Biology have used magnetic nanoparticles, with attached protein ligands, to detect gastric cancer in biopsy tissue. The housing for this device plugs into a smart phone and gives its reading in about an hour. Conventional lab testing of biopsy tissue can miss biomarkers that rapidly degrade and is less accurate than this device. MORE
