Facing surgery to replace a bulging aorta that was threatening to burst, British engineer Tal Golesworthy decided to hybridize MRI imaging and computer-assisted design with rapid protyping to create an “internal bandage” that would hold his aorta’s shape in place. Not only did this device save his life, it freed him from the life-long necessity of taking blood thinners that would have been necessary otherwise. MORE
