Rutherford Procedure for Liver Regeneration
February 8, 2011 | Terry Sharrer
The Rutherford Procedure is a combination of proton beam irradiation (focused to destroy disease tissue inside the body with little damage to healthy tissue) and an “Intrifuge Rotary Cell Culture System” that NASA developed for growing human cells in simulated weightlessness. As the proton beam removes scar tissue in the liver, for example, stem cells expanded in the intrifuge would be infused directly to the liver (or through the bloodstream) and allowed to regenerate cirrhotic damage. This approach was originally developed in China, and is licensed to Emerging Healthcare Solutions (Houston, TX). MORE
