Observing that human bone marrow stem cells can survive on polymer threads and then begin to differentiate when sewn through a collagen matrix, scientists at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Worcester, MA) propose that this could be an effective method for keeping stem cells in place over a long enough time for them to grow and repair a wounded heart. Even without hematopoiesis, “living” sutures offer some intriguing possibilities. MORE
