Combining digital image processing and a microscope, researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits in Germany have developed an automated blood counter that greatly enlarges a slide picture of abnormal blood cells and scans them for classification.  This replaces the manual method pathology labs currently use.  Thanks to Don Nagy for clipping this story.           MORE
