By taking time-lapse pictures in dark-field microscopy, a team from Stanford University’s Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine was able to record critical developments in embryos during the period between conception and freezing (3-5 days) which predict whether or not a blastocyst will form. Since most IVF embryos die after implantation, this method could be a predictor of those which will survive. MORE
