Using Beverages to Track Drinkers’ Locations
September 7, 2010 | Terry Sharrer
A recent article in the American Chemical Society’s Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry, observes that bottled beverages (beer, water, soda) contain a chemical “fingerprint” from the water used in their production. This identity comes from different hydrogen and oxygen isotopes found at different latitudes and elevations, which can leave a locational clue in hair. Maybe this will show up soon on CSI Miami, but it seems a little far fetched to be a criminal forensic tool as the article supposes-interesting though it is. MORE
