“Smart bomb” Chemotherapy for Cancer

Cancerous tumors are made up of both normal and malignant cells, and at the root of their growth are cancer stem cells, which are hard to target for chemotherapy. Researchers at Deakin University (Melbourne, Australia) and collaborators at the Indian Institute of Science (Bangalore, India) have developed an antibody-lipid particle that is capable of delivering anti-cancer drugs and interfering RNA, which they liken to a “smart bomb” because it both seeks and kills.
