First Custom-Fit, Degradable Bone Implant
July 20, 2010 | Terry Sharrer
Researchers at the University Medical Center and the Fraunhofer Institute in Aachen, Germany have teamed up to create a degradable bone implant that stimulates bone regeneration. The material, a combination of polylactide and tricalcium phosphate forms a paste that hardens into a porous artificial bone. The tricalcium phosphate stimulates natural bone growth and the implant degrades at the same rate as the bone regenerates. MORE
