The McKinsey Quarterly surveys healthcare payer and provider services around the world, mentioning Mexico’s “Medical Home” telemedicine service that provides access to a professional health advisor for a $5/month fee added to subscribers’ phone bills, and VisionSpring’s franchises in 13 countries that set up inexpensive eyeglass businesses. The report also claims (without attribution) that remote monitoring of chronically ill elderly patients in New York City has reduced hospital admissions by nearly 40%.
