Alair System

Asthmatx (Sunnyvale, CA) and the Virginia Hospital Center (Arlington, VA) recently began treating adult asthma patients with a new device (“Alair System”) that delivers heat to constricted airways in order to reduce smooth muscle tissue.  This is the first device-based treatment for asthma the FDA has approved. Asthma in the US afflicts 20 million people, and kills about 4,000 annually.  MORE
