Medicare vs. Healthcare
May 25, 2010 | Terry Sharrer
One issue in controlling healthcare spending under Medicare is the regional variation that exists. The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, last year, found that Medicare patients were more likely to receive new diagnoses in some parts of the country than in others. Was this due to variation in the way physicians practice medicine, or in the relative health status people in richer or poorer states? The answer is elusive, but profoundly important because the recent healthcare reform could drive medical factors in changing the entire US economy.
